Sensei Tak

The Jue Tao Martial Art Center is a non-profit organization that has been promoting and providing martial arts training in the metropolitan DC area since 1980. The Center offers training in Karate, Tai-Chi, and other branches of martial arts. Founded by Sensei Yee-Tak Fung (馮以德老師) in 1981, the Center currently has four branch schools throughout Washington area and a central training facility at Walt Whitman High School. Each year, about one hundred students are enrolled in the training program. Over the past twenty some years, thousands of students have benefited from the training.

Students in the Karate Program gain discipline, self-confidence, and leadership skills through intensive martial arts training. The training curriculum at the Jue Tao Center focuses on both physical conditioning as well as character building. Students start out as white belts and progress through the ranks, from Blue, Green, Brown, and finally Black. Originally formed as a mixed-martial art, Cuong Nhu training consists of elements from Shotokan, Wing Chun, Judo, Boxing, and other disciplines. To date, 48 students have attained the Black Belt and many serve as instructors, both at the Center and at branch schools. As Black Belts, these instructors give back to the martial arts community by training their own students.

passed away on June 17, 2004, but he is an enduring source of inspiration for the Center. He was a highly respected martial arts master and leader in the community. As Chief Instructor of the Center, he trained thousands of students over the course of nearly three decades. His students have performed in many martial arts demonstrations and festivals in the Washington, DC area. Under their leadership, vision, and dedication, the Jue Tao Center continues to be an outstanding place to learn the martial arts.
