I read a book several weeks ago that I loved, but I read it for pleasure, not review, which is a different style of reading for me. The world here is really well thought out, with all the little touches that make a world seem real. I don’t really care about that stuff.

It's such a tiny thing, but it makes the world feel real and lived-in in a way that some novel aren't. Reaching the end actually made me uneasy. This is one of those cases (partly at least, because an abundance of DNF-reviews agrees with me). Rumaan Alam is the author of the novels Rich and Pretty, That Kind of Mother, and the instant New York Times bestseller Leave the World Behind. Alam’s third novel features an omniscient narrator trundling us along as a white middle-class family heads to Long Island for a week at a stunning Airbnb.

It sounds sooooo interesting and intriguing but I just can't handle a lot of violence (especially towards children), excessive gore, or torture. The author goes on for one entire page listing food items that a character purchased. We start our next book club book, Once There Were Wolves on November 7th!

A family vacation turned apocalyptic, this book will generate plenty of conversation and is the book equivalent of an ear worm.

I have a very weird thing with plane crashes where I’m weirdly terrified of them. These scenes could be totally deleted and it would not affect the narrative one bit.
